oa9movp3an0dyoul Yale freshman drafted by BlackhawksJohn Hayden, a member of Yale Hockey’s Class of 2017, was drafted last night by the Chicago Blackhawks. The Stanley Cup Champions selected the Greenwich, Conn., native with the 13th pick (74th overall) in the third round of the NHL Draft held at the Prudential Center.

Hayden, who was invited to the 2013 USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp, attended Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor, Mich., while skating for the U.S. National Team Development Program. He served as one of the USA captains while scoring 15 goals and 29 points in 45 games during 2012-13.

The new Bulldog was MVP of the 2013 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game and both the U17 World Challenge and U18 World Championship. Hayden’s USA Team took silver at the IIHF U-18 World Championships in Sochi, Russia.

Prior to joining the U.S. program, Hayden, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound forward, collected 59 points over two years at the Brunswick School, including 21 goals his sophomore season.

Hayden, who was born in Chicago, and the Bulldogs will be at the Prudential Center in October to open the 2013-14 season at the Liberty Invitational.
