New Milford Thunder Advances to Cal Ripken USA Finals

In our recent Youth Baseball roundup, we gave an update on some local teams who are making a name for themselves.

One of those teams was the 12U New Milford Thunder Travel Team.

These ball players are creating a dynasty!  Earlier this month, the Thunder beat Exeter to win the New England Championship. It was the 4th straight year that the team clinched the regional title. They also won as 9, 10 and 11 year olds.

The team has been competing this past week in the Cal Ripken World Series, representing New England, and are impressing on a National Stage! Thursday, the Thunder were honored as one of the top 4 teams in the nation.

In tonight’s semi-final, New England took on the undefeated Mid Atlantic team representing Piedmont baseball from Hockessin, DE.

Mid Atlantic led for much of the game, until the 5th inning. New England made their move in Top 5th, thanks to Austin Swanson’s 3-run home run! The hit put New England up 5-4. It proved to be enough; New England held on for the incredible victory over Mid-Atlantic.

New England will advance to the USA Finals tomorrow. The game, played in Aberdeen, MD, begins at 5PM. The team will face the winner of tonight’s game between West Raleigh, NC and Laguna, CA.
