50 Greatest Players in UConn men’s basketball history: 50-1

MIKE McKAY37. Mike McKay (1978-82) 6-5, G. The Warren Harding grad and New Haven native ranks 12th all-time in scoring in UConn history, having poured in 1,633 points over his four-year career.

McKay was part of a 1979 Huskies team that reached the NCAA Tournament with all five starters from Connecticut.

Teammates Corny Thompson and Jeff Carr are also members of our Top 50. McKay had great size and an excellent shooting touch, and he was selected in the second round of the 1982 NBA Draft by the Utah Jazz.

He never stuck in the NBA, but McKay and the rest of that homegrown 1979 team will be remembered by fans all over the state forever.
