50 Greatest Players in UConn men’s basketball history: 50-1

Staak_Bob act35. Bob Staak (1968-71) 6-4, G/F. The Darien native ranks as the seventh-highest scorer in UConn history in terms of points per game (18.1). He’s also one of just 14 players who have averaged over 20 points per game in a season.

Staak played on some down UConn teams from ’68-71, and that hurts him on this list. The Huskies finished 5-19 in his sophomore season and 10-14 his senior year.

Staak went on to become the head coach at Xavier and later at Wake Forest, before spending 12 years as an NBA assistant coach.   (Sources: UConn Athletics, Courant.com) Photo courtesy: UConn Athletics
