President Obama expressed urgency for concussion research in a press conference on Thursday.

The president said one of the big problems is that there just isn’t enough data on the long term effects of concussions.

Obama spoke at the “White House Healthy Kids & Safe Sports Concussion Summit.”

“We’ve got to have better research, better data, better safety equipment, and better protocols,” Obama said. “We’ve got to have every parent and coach and teacher recognize the signs of concussions.”

The president also announced a number of new public-private partnerships to learn more about concussions, and how to treat them. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
