Welcome back to SportzEdge.com’s Coolest NCAA Logo Tournament. We consider ourselves a pretty big deal, and you should too.
Now that the MLB trade deadline has passed and things are starting to calm down in the baseball world, get by a computer or mobile device and catch up on your voting!
In case you missed the opening rounds of our tournament (how could you??), here are the links to the conferences polls we’ve already posted:
Here are the ground rules:
-64 teams will make the NCAA Coolest Logo Field (just like the basketball tournament should be).
-Each of the conferences will receive one automatic bid, voted on by fans (assuming there are any).
-At-large bids will be chosen based on the non-league champions with the most votes
Our plan is to unveil two conferences a day, each day, until we finish all 32 conferences. Then, the winners in each conference would advance to the “NCAA Tournament,” which will run throughout the month of August.
Southland: They know how to do logos right in the Southland. New conference member Abilene Christian has just about the sickest-looking wildcat you can imagine, and it leads the pack among an incredibly strong top half of the conference. New Orleans’ Privateer is unique in both name and color scheme, Southeastern Louisiana’s Lion makes Penn State look like a bunch of scrubs, and Northwestern
Much like the SEC in football or the old Big East in basketball, all six of the top logos here could make a run at a national championship. The Southland’s logo game is that strong.
Other interesting notes: Lamar and Incarnate Word have virtually the same logo (a Cardinal), so it’s probably pretty confusing when they get together on the court. Lamar’s is clearly better, though. The Sam Houston State logo we used is old, but it’s so freaking sweet that it shouldn’t matter. We have no idea why Houston Baptist would call their sports teams the “Huskies,” and until Texas A&M Corpus Christi reached the NCAA Tournament in 2007, we had no idea there were islands in Texas.
