UConn’s Breanna Stewart preps for USA World Championship tryouts

UConn’s Breanna Stewart may be the best player in college basketball, but is she one of the 12 best in the world?

She’ll get the chance to make that case in the coming weeks, as Stewart battles for a spot on the U.S. Women’s World Championship team. The Huskies rising junior will try to crack a roster that is likely to boast former UConn stars like Diana Taurasi, Maya Moore, and Tina Charles.

It’ll be a tough decision for UConn head coach Geno Auriemma, who has guided the women’s national team since 2009. Stewart and Auriemma will soon leave for Colorado and tryouts.

The Women’s World Championship begins September 27.

News 8’s John Pierson caught up with Stewart as she prepared for one of the biggest weeks of her basketball life. Check it out.
