College lacrosse tournament honors former Yalie Christian Prince

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)–A little lacrosse appetizer.

The college lacrosse season doesn’t get going until next spring, but this Sunday, the Yale Lacrosse team will play the annual Christian Prince Memorial tournament.

The tournament is to honor the former Yale player who was shot to death just a couple blocks from his New Haven apartment back in 1991. Head coach Andrew Shay never met Prince, but says he’s proud to honor the former lacrosse player.

“The things that people say about him is that he was such a giver a hard working player and obviously a great player brilliant a just a tremendous person above all vibrant and full of life,” Shay said.

The tournament starts at 10 a.m. Sunday. Yale plays Boston University in the first game and then will play Hartford at 2.

A Yale player will wear Prince’s number 27 during the tournament. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
