Quinnipiac, Yale set to battle in state’s biggest hockey game Saturday

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)–There’s a big college hockey game in New Haven on Saturday night, as No. 20 Quinnipiac takes on No. 17 Yale. The game is already sold out at Ingalls Rink.

The Bobcats are 7-1-2 against Yale over their last ten meetings. The one loss, of course, was in the national championship game two years ago.

“Yeah, it was a bad loss though, the wrong time to lose the game,” Quinnipiac head coach Rand Pecknold said. “But no, we’ve had some success against Yale. They have a great hockey team and I love the way they’re playing. I’ve been watching them on tape, the best defensive team in the country so will have our hands full.”

Yale head coach Keith Allain had similar praise for Quinnipiac.

“Well, they’ve had good hockey teams up there, plain and simple and you know I think anything that has happened in the past really doesn’t matter because our team Saturday night will be completely different than any Yale team that they’ve played. Their Q-Pac team on Satruday night will be different than any Q-Pac team that we’ve played.”

Quinnipiac goes to Brown tomorrow night and Yale hosts Princeton before Saturday’s big game.
