Post University pitcher Mike Costello taken by Orioles in MLB Draft

Mike_Costello72WATERBURY, Conn. –Pitcher Mike Costello (Manassas, Va.) of the Post University baseball team was selected by the Baltimore Orioles with the 1,213th pick in the 40th round of the Major League Baseball draft.

Costello becomes the first student-athlete in Post history to be taken in the June MLB Draft.

In 11 appearances, Costello threw 63.1 innings and finished 4-2 with a 2.13 ERA, good for fourth in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC).

The graduate student (senior) had a team-high 66 strikeouts, the third highest single-season total in school history. Costello led the conference with three complete games and had one shutout. He was named All-CACC First Team and earned pitcher of the week honors twice during the season.

Prior to Post, Costello played three years at Division I Radford University in Virginia. He played summer ball in the Cape Cod League with both the Harwich Mariners and the Bourne Braves.
