(WTNH)–Many of us have done it over the years– gathering up your buddies for a ballgame with some neighborhood kids. One young man, though, had a simple idea and turned it into a brilliant one– raising money for charity by having fun in your own backyard.
Soon-to-be Hamden High senior Jack Diana started Jack’s Junkball Tournament, which takes place in Hamden. This year marks the sixth of the tournamnet and the third year it’s had a charitable tie. Nearly 100 kids, making up several teams, take part.
For the second year, all money raised goes towards ALS research to help folks like Brian Savo.
Savo was diagnosed seven years ago and is grateful to everyone who helps run the event. He was there today with his wife, Maria, and their children.
Last year, the five-day event raised $6,500. This year, they topped $10,000.
The tournament has some great sponsors, who donate time, money, and food.
