Ex-Quinnipiac star Ousmane Drame invited to Washington Wizards Summer League mini-camp

(WTNH)–No one from Quinnipiac has ever played in an NBA game.

But that isn’t stopping former Bobcats big man Ousmane Drame.

The 6-9 forward will get his chance to impress the Washington Wizards next week, as he was added to the team’s NBA Summer League mini-camp roster on Friday.

The Wizards will hold a week-long mini-camp beginning on Monday before they head to Las Vegas to participate in one of the NBA’s three summer leagues on July 11.

Drame was one of 16 players added to the mini-camp roster. The 21-year old Boston native averaged 14.9 points, 11.2 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game as a senior for the Bobcats last season. He was also named MAAC Defensive Player of the Year.

Few Bobcats have been as close to the NBA as Drame is now. Cliff Mosley was selected in the 10th round of the 1971 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers, but didn’t make the team and never saw the floor. Bob Vacca was taken by the Milwaukee Bucks in the ninth round two years later, but he didn’t make the team either.

2010 graduate James Feldeine has carved up a nice career for himself overseas and played for the Dominican Republic national team against Team USA in the World Cup last year.

But if Drame impresses the Wizards (or another team) this summer, there’s a good chance he could land on an NBA Development League team come fall. From there, he’s one call-up away from making it to “The League.”
