NASCAR’s Joey Logano hosted charity golf event in Portland, takes out local sportscaster in golf cart race

(WTNH)–NASCAR star Joey Logano didn’t forgot where he comes from. For all of his racing success, the Daytona 500 winner always loves to make trips back home to our state.

Last week, he made a pit stop in Portland, on his way to the NASCAR event in Loudon, New Hampshire.

Logano hosted a charity golf event at Quarry Ridge. All money raised at the “Racing for Hope” fundraiser will go to “The Connection” in Middletown, which is a place for people trying to get back on their feet.

“It’s for people that work really hard and need a pit stop,” Logano said.

The 25-year-old is in search for his first Sprint Cup Series championship. He is currently in second place.

Logano’s best finish in the Sprint Cup Series came last year when he finished in fourth place.

Back in February, Logano won the 2015 Daytona 500, which is his only win so far this season. Along with that win, he has 10 top-five finishes and 14 top-10 finishes in 2015.

“We’ve been consistent, and I think that’s important for The Chase,” Logano said.

While we know that the No. 22 Penske driver has always been a phenomenal racer, he says that he isn’t very good at golf or kayaking.

In a one-on-one interview with our John Pierson, Logano tells the story of how he lost his wedding ring on his honeymoon. The story consists of him and a kayak.

In that interview, we find out if Logano still roots for UConn basketball, since he lives down in North Carolina now. Also, the two race golf carts with Logano’s salary on the line.

“I’ll spin you out,” Logano said.

Pierson responded back, “I’ll take you out.”

Pierson did not take him out, and with no surprise was defeated by the NASCAR driver.
