New London MMA fighter Brennan Ward becoming one of sport’s biggest names

(WTNH)–He trains on one of New London’s busiest streets.

Brennan Ward started coming to his dad’s gym, Whaling City Boxing, when he was just a kid. 16 years–and many fights, in and out of the ring–later, and he is one of the top welterweight Mixed Martial Artists in the world.

Ward has always been full of energy; a bit of a thrill seeker. The more extreme, the better for the 27-year-old. His nickname, “The Irish Bad Boy,” fits.

“I’m just like a wild dude,” Ward said. “I always want to do something crazy.”

“He was pretty much a knockabout kind of kid. He’s a skateboarder, he’s a snowboarder, he’s a surfer,” his father said.

With each passing knockout comes more success and expectations. He’s gotten a title fight before. Another would be nice, but he says it’s not going to define him.
