Hartford getting new Major Arena Soccer League franchise

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH)–Professional soccer is making a return to Connecticut. A team from Hartford will be joining the Major Arena Soccer League in 2015.

Hartford City FC will begin play at the XL Center starting on November 1 and ending on February 28.

They’ll play a total of 20 games, 10 in Hartford.
The team hopes to be playing in a new outdoor soccer-only facility on the site of the old Dillon Stadium in Hartford in 2017.

“You know the old expression — you build it, they will come,” Hartford City FC president Mitch Anderson told the Hartford Courant. “We didn’t build the XL Center, but we’re building a team here and let’s see if everyone will come. I think they will.”

Haratford City FC will be one of 23 teams in the MASL. Team officials hope to one day join the North American Soccer League.
