NEW HAVEN, CONN. (AP)–Four-time Champion Caroline Wozniacki has been added to the field of next week’s Connecticut Open.
The former top-ranked player in the world was granted a wildcard into the tournament Monday along with Wimbledon Finalist Garbine Muguruza and French Open finalist Lucie Safarova.
The additions give the field six of the top 10 players in the world, including Simona Halep (No. 3), defending champion Petra Kvitova (4), Wozniacki (5), Safarova (7), Karolina Pliskova (8) and Muguruza (9).
The main draw of the tournament, the final tuneup on the WTA Tour before the U.S. Open, will be held Aug. 23-29 at the Connecticut Tennis Center.
Wozniacki has a 25-3 record in her seven appearances at the event.
