Yale men’s basketball team returns from Australian trip

(WTNH)–When you go to school at Yale, you get to do some pretty cool things. Great academics, and some fun road trips are certainly among them.

The basketball Bulldogs just got back from Australia on Thursday night. It was a 10-day tour for the Elis. The NCAA allows teams to make trips abroad every few years, so Yale went and played four games Down Under, winning three.

But this trip was about more than just the games on the court.

“This was second to none, I really loved Italy for a lot of reasons, but the people, the culture in Australia was wonderful, they treated us like gold,” Yale head coach James Jones said.

“I emailed my athletic director Tom Beckett last night and said, ‘we’ve come back a better team, and better men,” Jones said. “The best part about it was the camaraderie we got. It’s us against Sydney, I guess, but the people were friendly. Some nights wwe got lost so we had to stick together and make sure everyone was good.”

Coach Jones added that he easily could have stayed another couple of days, especially after their team dinner last night, which started with salmon and ended with steak.

It was a long ride home though–28 hours.
