(WTNH)–The team did what it was asked to do, and now it is reaping the rewards.
The Elm City Hawks were sent off to the Nutmeg State Games from New Haven City Hall with the assignment to “win the gold.” And on Friday, the team returned with the gold, and with a ticker tape parade through the City Hall Anex.
Mayor Toni Harp and others were on hand, lining the grand building to welcome the baseball team back.
The Nutmeg Games are an Olympics of sorts for athletes in the state.
“I treated the Games like they were a once-in-a-lifetime chance, because you know, I’m 18, I’m going to be going to college. So I just wanted to take my last time being here, and make it special for myself,” said Malik Nieves.
