NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)–The Elm City trophy is on the line Friday night, as the University of New Haven meets Southern Connecticut State in their annual rivalry game.
The Chargers have won five straight over the Owls, but as the coaches and players will tell you, throw the records away when these two meet.
“I love playing Southern,” New Haven head coach Chris Pincince said. “Anytime, anywhere. They love it, we love it.”
“It’s a great rivalry. Last year was a great game, and anytime I’ve been affiliated with a New Haven-Southern game, it’s been great. I can’t wait ’til Friday night,” Pincince said.
Southern Connecticut State head coach Tom Godek feels the rivalry game buzz as well.
“I know there was a little bit of buzz around campus, we should have a pretty good crowd here. It’s an awesome game to have,” he said.
“It’s absolutely bragging rights, and for me, it’s a hometown game,” said UNH running back Andre Anderson. “I’ll be playing in front of a lot of family and friends, so I just can’t wait.”
Kickoff on Friday night is set for 7 p.m. at Southern.
