A message for all Mets fans before Game 1 of the World Series

To those true to the Orange and Blue,

What a season, huh? For the first time in 15 years, our beloved New York Mets are back in the Fall Classic. It’s been a painful nine years since Carlos Beltran struck out looking in the NLCS (Oh the pain, Joe Benigno would say). Nine years since the collapse that we all STILL remember like it was yesterday.

Now, we have something to rejoice. The pitching staff is lights-out. The Yoenis Cespedes trade has been monumental for the team. Daniel Murphy is hitting so well, a bar renamed itself to Daniel Murphy’s for the rest of the season. HOW COOL IS THAT!?!

When you listen to New York sports radio stations, though, the hot topic seems to be what the Metropolitans should do during the off season. Seriously, we have to think about the offseason NOW?

As one fan to another, STOP IT!!! Our beloved team is only four wins away from winning their first title in 29 years, and third title overall. WHY DO WE NEED TO THINK ABOUT THE OFFSEASON NOW!?!

I get it. It’s a habit to think about “next year”. We’ve been thinking about next year for the past nine years. The Mets needed a bat. We needed a better rotation. While it’s not perfect, the team FINALLY has the talent needed to get over the hump just enough to win it all.

Why can’t we just enjoy the present, and think about the future when the season is over? Focusing on the offseason kills the joy of watching what’s going on now—right now. Moves during the offseason don’t effect the staff we have now. The team we have now is the team we will have until the final out.

So, here’s what Mets fan need to do:

1.) Turn on the World Series.

2.) Sit down and watch.

3.) Repeat until series is over.

NOTHING ELSE. If you feel like you need to talk about the team, TALK ABOUT WHAT YOU SAW THE NIGHT BEFORE, AND WHAT YOU THINK THE TEAM NEEDS TO DO FOR THE NEXT GAME!!!

The time to talk about off season moves is during the off season, not now. I look forward to the angry emails.

–Sincerely,

James Campbell
