Bowen Field in New Haven re-opens; Hillhouse set to play there once again

(WTNH)–The Hillhouse football team will finally play a home game at Bowen Field. This comes after years of delays and setbacks on the new field. On Thanksgiving Day, the Academics will play crosstown rival Wilbur Cross. Construction on the site continues, but the field is ready and temporary locker rooms and seating will be put in place to accomodate the teams and fans.

It’s not perfect, but as you can imagine the team is looking forward to the game.

“We feel very good, looking at the field. I’m very excited, the kids are excited,” said head coach Reggie Lytle. “We’ve got some things to handle before we get to the Thanksgiving game, but were very excited to play on this field, and you know, and it’s finally come after three years.”

The city of New Haven has called a news conference for Thursday at 9 a.m. at Bowen Field to talk about all the details. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
