HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH)- The UConn men’s basketball team got its final preseason tune-up in this afternoon, an 83-43 win over Division II University of New Haven.
Chargers head coach Ted Hotaling opened his locker room doors to the SportzEdge team, he told his team prior to tip with the 20th ranked Huskies, “today this is about Chargers basketball all right. Day by day, every day, every game every possession. Our whole thing is better by one alright!? Lets go. Lets get it done.”
It was a great opportunity for UNH to play a top tier Division I team. For a portion of the first half New Haven kept it close, but by the half UConn built an 18 point lead. Eventually– the Huskies size, strength, speed and athleticism won out..
14 Huskies saw action with 12 of them scoring, led by Rodney Purvis and freshman Steve Enoch of Norwalk, who both scored 11 points. Michael Bourke led UNH with 10 points.
Connecticut opens its regular season Friday at 7:30pm when the Huskies host Maine at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs.
