NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (WTNH)–The state’s newest baseball team, the New Britain Bees, got a new manager on Tuesday. It’s a guy who knows the area well, and you won’t have to show him where the clubhouse is, or how to get to the stadium.
Stan Cliburn, who managed the New Britain Rock Cats from 2001-05 is back in the Hardware City. Cliburn led the Rock Cats to the 2002 Eastern League championship, managing a team that included future Minnesota Twins stars Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau. He spent last season as manager of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.
“It’s minor league baseball, to me,” Cliburn told the Hartford Courant. “The names change, the personnel changes, but the game doesn’t change. You develop those players. I’m not going to teach the players in the Atlantic League any different than I did those players Minnesota had that were top prospects. They’re all prospects in my eyes.”
