Rodney Purvis named AAC Player of the Week after Huskies sneak past Tulane

(WTNH)–Kevin Ollie and the Huskies did just enough to squeak past Tulane in their conference opener on Saturday, and Rodney Purvis was a major reason why. The junior had a good week, and on Monday, he was named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week.

Purvis put up 20 points in the win in New Orleans, and scored 16 in UConn’s victory over Texas in Austin.

The 6-4 guard says the work he did in the offseason is now paying off.

“Not to sound like, arrogant or cocky or anything, but I really put in a lot of work over the summertime,” Purvis said after practice on Monday in Storrs. “Getting up thousands of shots a day. Just going in the gym and getting my reps. Ever since the summertime, my jump shot was one of the things I wanted to focus on, and they’re going in for me.”

UConn turns its attention now to Temple on Tuesday night at the XL Center.
