Former NFL stars visit local hospitals as part of Walter Camp weekend

(WTNH)–For many players, this is the highlight of Walter Camp weekend. A chance to make a lasting impression on a child during a difficult time.

Players visited a handful of Connecticut hospitals, including the CT Childrens’ Medical Center, Gaylord Hospital and the VA on Thursday, and brought some props, too. Four-time Super Bowl champion Joe Andruzzi let kids try his New Enlgand Patriots championship ring on for size.

Andruzzi is being honored by the Walter Camp Foundation as its Man of the Year. The former Southern Connecticut State standout had his own health scare in 2007, when he was diagnosed with cancer. Aggressive treatment helped him win his battle.

Doug Williams, the former Washington Redskins quarterback and Super Bowl MVP also went room-to-room to visit kids at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
