Despite entirely new starting five, Albertus Magnus basketball keeps on winning

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)–The more things change, the more they stay the same at Albertus Magnus College. The men’s basketball team is off to another great start, despite losing half of its team to graduation.

Head coach Mitch Oliver was prepared, recruiting players to replace all five starters from last season’s four-time defending GNAC championship team.

“We lost our top seven players from last year, just about 90 to 93 points per game,” said head coach Mitch Oliver. “We like to think sometimes that the system remains the same, but the faces are new.”

“Everything is easy, because we’ve got a great coach and a great team. I just gotta be a leader now because last year, I was the one coming off the bench,” said forward Jaqawhn Walters.

The Falcons are off to an 11-3 start. They start two freshmen, two sophomores and a senior.

Freshman Shantay Levell leads the team in scoring. The Falcons play at home on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
