UConn’s Breanna Stewart wins fourth Player of the Week award

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – For the fourth time this season, University of Connecticut women’s basketball senior forward Breanna Stewart(North Syracuse, N.Y.) has been selected as the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday.

Stewart averaged 24.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 5.5 blocks and 3.5 assists per game while shooting 55.6 percent from the floor during a 2-0 week for the top-ranked Huskies, which included wins at No. 2/2 South Carolina and Temple.

The North Syracuse, N.Y. native started the week with a 25-point, five-block performance in UConn’s victory over the Gamecocks in Columbia, S.C. She played all 40-minures and was 9-of-18 from the field, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. She followed up with 24 points, eight rebounds, six blocks and four steals in the win at Temple on Sunday. Stewart was 11-of-18 from the floor and dished-out seven assists against the Owls.

At 19.9 points per game, Stewart ranks second in the conference and also ranks in the top-10 in nine other categories, including field goal percentage (.591), assists per game (4.2), free throw percentage (.828) and blocks per game (3.4). This season, the senior forward has tallied 13 20-point games and has reached double figures in 23 of UConn’s 24 games.
Stewart and the Huskies are set to host Cincinnati on Wednesday in Gampel Pavilion at 7 p.m. on SNY. The mid-week contest will serve as UConn’s Pink Game as part of the Play 4Kay initiative.
