Team USA women’s basketball wraps up practice at UConn

(WTNH)–Most of the 17 members of Team USA basketball are on their way home from Storrs now. The best players in the world spent the last three days at UConn, training with the national team.

It wrapped up today. The get-together was kind of a refresher course for players and coaches. Then again, how much do you really have to teach these players?

Of course, several players on the roster have played for UConn coach Geno Auriemma, and he’s probably coached against most of the others.

“It’s hard when you only have three days, I mean that’s like six hours,” Auriemma said. “So, it’s not really a lot. So what you’re trying to do is reinforce some concepts that you started with, and then you’re trying to incorporate some of the new faces.”

“I think whatever we get out of it is what we put into it,” Diana Taurasi said. “We could just come out here and go through the motions, but I think the minute everyone steps on the court, they really want to do well for the name on the jersey.”

The team will get together in July before the 2016 Olympics in Rio, which start in August. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
