After 1-10 start, Sacred Heart surges into second place in NEC

(WTNH)–The Sacred Heart men’s basketball team is on a roll. After starting the season 1-10, the Pioneers have since gone 10-6. They currently sit tied for second place (with Mount St. Mary’s) in the Northeast Conference standings, behind 11-5 Wagner.

Two local products are leading the charge for third-year head coach Anthony Latina.

East Hartford’s Cane Broome and Bridgeport’s Quincy McKnight have helped Sacred Heart win six of its last seven games. Not bad for a team that went the whole month of December without winning a game.

“It definitely was hard. People didn’t want to quit, but when you lose 10 games straight, it’s like, alright, can this be over already?” said Broome.

“We thought the wins could eventually come, but you know, you do doubt yourself,” said head coach Anthony Latina. “But you have to stick to the plan and stay positive.”
