(WTNH)–Fairfield Prep and Hillhouse have been two of the top teams in the Southern Connecticut Conference for years. On Wednesday night, they met again in the conference championship game.
Almost 1,600 fans packed the gym at Shelton High School, and more were turned away, as the building was at capacity.
Prepshot the ball well early on, as Rich Kelly, the outstanding player of the tournament, nailed a three to put the Jesuits up 34-22.
Then it was the other Kelly, John, connecting from deep. Prep had a 15-point lead after three, but Hillhouse stormed back to cut it to within two.
They had a couple of chances to tie with threes at the end of the game, but couldn’t get either to fall, and Fairfield Prep came away with the SCC championship, by the final score of 66-63.
