Makai Mason named Ivy League Player of the Week after clutch shots lifted Yale to Ivy title

(WTNH)–The Yale men’s basketball team has a week to enjoy its latest achievement, the programs first trip to the NCAA tournament since 1962.

The Bulldogs wrapped it up on Saturday with a win at Columbia, behind guard Makai Mason, who was clutch, scoring 22 points. Mason hit some big shots to hold off the Lions.

On Monday, the sophomore was named Ivy League Player of the Week. He says he loves having the ball in his hands with the game on the line.

“I have an affinity for that, and I cherish those moments,” Mason said. “It’s a little bit of pressure, but it feels great when you can make the big shot.”

Yale was also getting respect in the national polls on Monday. The Bulldogs picked up seven votes in the Associated Press’ top 25, appearing in the “others receiving votes” column.
