(WTNH)–The NCAA Tournament is often the biggest stage a university will have on a national level over the course of the year.
So when fans in Providence on Thursday looked at one baseline and saw Baylor’s uniformed, logos-on-drums, big-time band, and then looked across the court at Yale’s contingent, consisting of students from Hillhouse High School, it had to make New Haven residents proud.
The Yale band, which normally plays at hockey games during the season instead of basketball games, was on spring break. So, Yale head coach James Jones asked Hillhouse if it would like to bring its band, which played at several games for the Bulldogs during the regular season, to Providence.
“It’s once-in-a-lifetime, I’m definitely lucky,” said one of the band members, who could barely contain his excitement. “This is a college tournament. I’m so happy.”
