Zane’s Cycles in Branford is in the midst of its month-long Bigger Wheel Sale, offering its full array of bikes, helmets, parts, clothing, and other cycling stuff at discounts up to 50%. This weekend, there will be special emphasis on the “world famous” retailer’s extensive line of mountain bikes. To top things off, Zane’s is sponsoring a mountain bike group ride this Sunday, April 10, that will take riders through the nearby Branford Supply Ponds and its system of well-maintained trails.
“Mountain biking continues to be very popular in this part of Connecticut,” says Tom Girard, the store’s director of retail operations. “There are so many great off-road places to ride, including the Supply Ponds, all year round.” Other popular mountain biking venues in the area are Rockland Preserve in north Madison, Westwoods in Guilford, the Cockaponset State Forest in Chester, and Miller Pond in Durham.
This weekend, Zane’s will have representatives from several major mountain bike manufacturers—including Specialized, Trek, Raleigh, and the electric-assist iZip—at the store to show off their latest models and offer demo rides to the public. “We’ve just added Rocky Mountain Bikes to our lineup,” Girard says, referring to the Vancouver, British Columbia, company that’s been in business for 35 years. “This will be a great chance for riders to get a first look at their impressive bikes.”
Sunday’s hour-long group ride will begin at Zane’s at 10:00 a.m. Riders should bring their own mountain bike, helmet, and other appropriate gear. “The weather forecast is great, so we hope to have a good turnout,” Girard says.
Zane’s is located at 330 Main Street in Branford. For more details about the Bigger Wheel Sale, which runs throughout April, or directions to the store, call 203-488-3244 or visit their website, zanes.com.
