(WTNH)–UConn women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma remains in the hospital for observation after taking himself off of a plane at Bradley Airport on Saturday, according to the Hartford Courant.

The 62-year-old coach missed UConn’s championship victory parade in Hartford two weeks ago and did not accompany the team when it was honored by lawmakers at the state Capitol last week because he was feeling ill.

He attended the WNBA draft, where Breanna Stewart, Moriah Jefferson and Morgan Tuck were taken 1-2-3 on Thursday, but did not speak to reporters.

A UConn spokesperson told the Courant Sunday that there would be “no further comment on Auriemma’s condition until there was something substantial to report.”

UConn released this statement on Saturday:

“After boarding a plane at Bradley International Airport on Saturday morning, UConn head women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma decided to deplane because he was not feeling well. Coach Auriemma had been ill for the last several days and was brought to the hospital for observation where he is resting comfortably. The University will have no further comment on this matter and we ask that people please respect the Auriemma family’s privacy.”

Information from the Associated Press was used in this report.
