(WTNH)–Freshman JM Piotrowski really came on towards the end of the year for Yale hockey. But, as our own Erik Dobratz reports, it’s what he’s doing off the ice that will have a lasting impact.
ED: JM, you’ve invited us here for a haircut, tell me about that and what is so important about this.
PIOTROWSKI: Well, it’s not just any haircut, obviously as you can see I have a lot of hair, and today I’m going to be donating my hair for Locks of Love, and I’m really excited about it. It’s been about three years since I’ve had a haircut, so you know I’m due for one.
ED: Why did you decide to start growing your hair long?
PIOTROWSKI: I just started growing it because I wanted long hair, and then it started getting so long that you know, I was like, might as well keep going with it. Having the opportunity to grow my hair out and donate it seemed like it made it worthwhile and gave me a good cause, and also I’ve had three aunts who’ve had breast cancer and two of them lost all their hair. They also had red hair so it kind of works out perfectly that I’m able to carry the red hair and donate it for a good cause.
ED: Playing hockey with long red hair must not be easy, especailly on road games, right?
PIOTROWSKI: Yeah, I’ve heard–I’ve gone through many opponents so I’ve heard pretty much any chirp you can think of–Wendy’s girl, Carrot Top, Shaun White–I’ve heard them all.
