Hillhouse, New London among schools changing classes in Connecticut high school football

(WTNH)–Several schools in Connecticut have been reclassified by the CIAC according to their enrollment for 2017. This process, while less mind-numbing and paradoxical than conference realignment on the collegiate level, can have an impact on which schools are playing for the championship come December.

Schools move up and down in class every year, but this year’s moves aren’t quite as impactful as last year’s, when Darien moved up from Class L to Class LL (escaping nemesis New Canaan), and subsequently won the championship.

Maybe the most notable of this year’s moves is Hillhouse’s drop from Class L to M, which could put the Academics back in position for a state title. Hillhouse has done well when it’s competed in Class M, having won the title in 2012. New London also moved down from L to M. The Whalers lost to Hillhouse in the Class M title game in 2010.
