(WTNH)–The IceBus is rolling into Boston.
The UConn men’s hockey team will take on Maine at Fenway Park on Saturday, January 14, 2017, the school announced on Wednesday.
The game will be a part of Frozen Fenway 2017, a two-week series of hockey and ice skating events at the home of the Boston Red Sox, which will feature two Hockey East doubleheaders.
Fans will have the unique opportunity to watch the Huskies in their first-ever game at Fenway Park. UConn last played outdoors in 2011, when they faced Sacred Heart at Rentschler Field.
“Outdoor hockey is quickly becoming a staple on Boston’s winter sports calendar and we look forward to joining with Hockey East and the City of Boston to build on that tradition by bringing some of the most accomplished and talented collegiate teams in the country to compete on the ice at Fenway Park,” Boston Red Sox President Sam Kennedy said in a statement.
The two Hockey East doubleheaders will take place on January 7 and 14.
Boston University will take on UMass, and Boston College will face Providence on the 7th, while UConn and Maine and the University of New Hampshire and Northeastern will tangle on the 14th.
“Hockey East and our schools could not be more excited to take the ice once again at Fenway Park,” said Hockey East commissioner Joe Bertagna. “Once Frozen Fenway 2017 is complete all twelve Hockey East schools will have played an outdoor game at Fenway Park, creating once-in-a-lifetime memories for the players, students, alumni and fans.”
Along with the hockey games, Boston will host a free public skate for residents to experience Frozen Fenway on Monday, January 16, 2017. Additional details will be made available to the public in the coming months, according to the release.
Ticket information, along with additional Frozen Fenway games and events will be announced in the coming months. Visit RedSox.com for additional Frozen Fenway schedule updates.
