(WTNH)–A couple of local studs are getting ready to play some Division 1 football. Xavier Bass, formerly of Harding, and Tajik Bailey of Ansonia are getting ready for their freshmen seasons at Central Connecticut State.
Now that they’re in college, do they ever think of their high school glory days?
“I try not to think about what I did in high school much. It’s new surrounding, it’s a new environment, it’s new people,” said Bass. “I’m just looking forward to starting a new journey here.”
Bagley says he’s learning what it takes to be a college football player.
“You have to be mentally tough, coming in here ready for anything when your number is called,” he said.
Last year at Ansonia, Bagley rushed for 2,083 yards and 31 touchdowns. This year, he’ll be playing in the Blue Devils’ secondary.
Both are catching on, fitting in and feeling excited for Central’s season opener against Lafayette on September 2.
“That’s going to be the best feeling ever, stepping on a D-1 college field,” said ____. “Hearing the crowd. It’s not going to be anything like high school. I’m excited for it.”
