New London football hits practice field under new coach Juan Roman

NEW LONDON, Conn. (WTNH)–Coach Juan Roman says he’s angry all the time. That’s his secret. But he is happy about some things: including being head coach of the New London High School football team.

Roman graduated from New London in 1984. He spent the last 11 seasons as the school’s defensive coordinator. He says he can’t wait for the first game of the season.

“I probably will be very moved,” Roman said. “Just because I know there’s going to be a lot of support. Because this is my hometown. Just yesterday, I was walking around Pequot Avenue and I looked out on the water and I’m like, this is the greatest place in the world. I know people will think that’s crazy, but I have all I need here.”

New London opens with East Lyme on September 9. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
