NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)- The Connecticut Open field is down to eight. Three-time New Haven champ and Olympic Bronze medalist Petra Kvitova advanced to the quarter-finals with a straight set win over Genie Bochuard, 6-3, 6-2.
It’s been an up and down year for Bouchard, the Canadian Olympian, who is trying to find consistency in her game. She looked great in her match earlier in the week and jumped out to a 3 games to 1 lead tonight in the opening set.
The hard hitting lefty, Kvitova, gained control after that banging some big shots from the baseline to take the first set 6-3. The two-time Wimbledon Champ kept it rolling in the 2nd set to win the match, 6-3, 6-2.
Kvitova’s all-time record at the CT Open is now 17-2. She plays Ekaterina Makarova in the quarters.
Kvitova beat her in Rio on her way to a bronze medal.
