West Haven-based Justin Sumter ready to get back in MMA cage

(WTNH)–MMA fighter Justin Sumter is jumping back in the cage. He’s trying to win his second professional fight.

Sumter’s last match–a win–lasted exactly 32 seconds. He trains at the Fighting Arts Academy in West Haven, which is owned by fellow fighter Nick Newell.

Newell is training Sumter, who is taking on Ralph Johnson this month. The MMA can be brutal at times, but Sumter says he tries to look on the bright side.

“I don’t want to lie and say I never get nervous. There’s some nerves, but I feel those nerves prepare me for what I’m about to do,” he said. “There’s a saying, you always put the hard work in when you train, and when you fight, it’s fun. I always think of fighting in the cage as something fun. I don’t put those negative nerves. I always want to keep things positive when I enter the cage.”
