Quinnipiac hockey hosts Northeastern to open 2016-17 season

HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH) — The Quinnipiac Bobcats will kick of their 41st season of men’s ice hockey this weekend as they host Northeastern at the TD Bank Sports Center for a weekend series. The Bobcats will open their season Friday night, and also play Saturday evening, with both games starting at 7 p.m.

Coming into the season, the Bobcats are ranked second in the country after a year in which the team went 32-4-7 and advanced all there way the the national championship game.

Expectations are high for head coach Rank Pecknold as he enters his 23rd season behind the Quinnipiac bench. Last year was historic for Pecknold, who earned National Coach of the Year of honors and signed an extension to remain with the school through 2021.

After sweeping both ECAC Championships last season, the Bobcats have been picked to finish first in the ECAC coaches in media poll. Quinnipiac will also look to make the NCAA Tournament for the fifth straight season.
