BUFFALO, N.Y. (Sportzedge) — Despite strong performances by some Quinnipiac alumni, the Connecticut Whale dropped their season opener to the Buffalo Beauts by the final of 5-4.

The Whale were looking to start of their second season with a huge win and the team had strong performances by some former Quinnipiac Bobcats. Kelly Babstock had a goal and two assists in the opener, while recent graduate Nicole Connery notched her first career NWHL assist.

The Whale jumped on the board first as Connery found Haley Skarupa just over eighty seconds into the game. Babstock’s goal came 1:45 into the second period and helped the Whale regain the lead at 2-1.

Connecticut had  a 4-2 lead heading into the third period but the Beauts dominated with three straight goals to win their home opener. The Whale will hit the road again next Sunday as the take on the New York Riveters at 5 p.m.
