Bellator MMA’s Liam McGeary sold his construction business in England to become professional fighter

(WTNH)–Some people love it. Some people hate it. There seems to be no in-between with mixed martial arts.

Bellator MMA returns to Mohegan Sun Arena on November 4th.

The headliner is light heavyweight champion Liam McGeary. He stopped by the studio recently.

What a story he has to tell. The 34-year-old sold his construction business in England, and came to the U.S. to pursue a career in professional fighting.

“The recession kicked in in England, and the work was drying up, the sites were closing down. I was good at fighting, I was getting in trouble for fighting a lot, so instead of getting in trouble, I figured, why not see how far I can go?” McGeary said. “My friend hooked me up with a guy over here, and that was like four years ago, and I’ve just been winning ever since.”

McGeary let Pierson hold the championship belt for a bit. He even agreed to let him arm-wrestle him for it.
