Former Daniel Hand star Matt Walsh has become key cog for UConn defense

(WTNH)–On Thursday, Daniel Hand High School football coach Steve Fillipone announced this would be his final season with the Tigers.

One of Fillipone’s former star players was Matt Walsh, who’s now a senior linebacker at UConn.

One of the Huskies’ four captains, Walsh has become a vital cog in Connecticut’s defensive machine. His 32 tackles through six games ranks him fourth on the team.

He’s one of the team leaders who bought into head coach Bob Diaco’s approach. Diaco preaches the importance of a family atmosphere within his team, and like any family– it’s okay to poke fun at one and other.

When it comes to the coach, his excitability and hair are the main targets.
