UConn A.D. Benedict: “We’re in control of our own destiny”

(WTNH)–So, what now for UConn athletics?

The Huskies–and many others–put their best foot forward trying to convince the Big 12 to expand. After taking $10,000 to $15,000 from each school intetested in joining, the conference decided against expansion.

UConn has to make the best of a tough situation now, as they’ll continue to play in the American Athletic Conference until a better option presents itself.

Athletic director David Benedict says that despite the disappointment left by the Big 12, life is pretty good in Storrs.

“I think the nice thing about today is that we control our own destiny,” Benedict said. “We don’t have anything that is holding us back from moving forward, because we’re not waiting for someone that we don’t have any control over to make a decision that really has an impact on our future.”

“I can tell you that we are a power five athletic program in every sense of the word,” he said.
