With Stewart, Tuck and Jefferson gone, how good can the UConn women be this season?

(WTNH)–How good will the UConn women’s basketball team be this year?

Well, don’t expect them to pick up where they left off after winning a fourth straight national championship. By the end of the season though, it’s safe to assume Geno Auriemma’s Huskies will be in the mix for another title.

You don’t lose Breanna Stewart, Moriah Jefferson, and Morgan Tuck and not take a step back.

Auriemma is looking forward to watching this team develop.

“This is a long time now, since basically 2008, that we don’t have a returning All-American to make the players around them a lot better,” Auriemma said. “It’s just going to be different. It’s going to be a challenge.”

“It’s supposed to be that way. We just haven’t been in that situation in such a long time that we’ve forgotten that that’s the real world,” he said.

UConn opens the exhibition season in Storrs on November 1.
