(WTNH)–The preseason polls were not kind to the two Connecticut schools in the Northeast Conference.
Sacred Heart was picked eighth, while Central Connecticut State, led by new coach Donyell Marshall, was chosen 10th in the 10-team league.
The Blue Devils are preparing for the season nonetheless. Helping Central is third-year manager Joe Waida. It’s the work Waida is doing off the court which is really important.
On Thursday night, he’ll be walking at the Bushnell Park ‘Light in the Night’ walk in honor of his mother, who passed away earlier this year.
Waida says his mom loved his passion for basketball, and now he wants to do something special to remember her and help the organization that helped his family.
“They helped us in every way possible through the process of my mom being sick, and they’re such genuinely great people, anything that they could offer, financial advice, anything, they were so, so helpful.”
His walking team is “Gail’s Angels.” If you’d like to help, you can visit LLS.org and follow the link for “Light the Night.”
