(WTNH)–On Wednesday night in Meriden, some of the state’s best baseball talents were honored with induction to the Diamond Club Hall of Fame.

Among them were Yale coach John Stuper and Sheehan High of Wallingford coach Matt Altieri.

The pair have impacted young men for years. Stuper spent 25 year with the Bulldogs. Altieri, who won a state title with his Titans two years ago, has been on the job at Sheehan for 22 seasons.

Umpires Elmer Deshaine and Mike Lamberti were also inducted.

Altieri’s mothier passed away recently, and he spoke about what she would say if she could have been there.

“My mom was a teacher, so she’d speak like a teacher, like a coach, and make the family proud. That’s what I’ve tried to do. I can’t even explain the feeling I have to go in with a group of such prestigious inductees. To be one of them is a dream come true,” he said.

In all, five members were inducted by the Diamond Club.
