SportzEdge Time Machine: Norwich’s Rajai Davis making a name for himself in the majors

(WTNH)–After Norwich’s own Rajai Davis hit one of the classic home runs in World Series history, we figured it’d be a good time to bust this out.

Check out our feature on him from 2011, when he was with the Blue Jays. Here’s our original script:

“I had a 2 percent chance of making it, that’s after I was drafted.”

Looks like Norwich’s Rajai Davis beat those odds.

Over one thousand players were taken ahead of him before he was selected in the 38th round of the 2001 draft. Making a name for himself is nothing new.

Originally a draft pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Davis did spend some time in the Pirates organization. He also spent some time in the big leagues with the Oakland A’s before ending up with Toronto and it seems he’s found a home north of the border.”

Davis is now with his 4th team in his 6th big league-season…
He doesn’t worry about bouncing around…

(rajai davis sot)
“it doesn’t add any days to my life so why worry.”

Worry– is left to pitchers and catchers..
Davis has become one of baseball’s top stealing threats..

“aggresiveness has always been with me i think its my god given gift to be aggressive so naturally i just do that.”

When he’s on base consistently– Davis helps his team win…
Swiping bags– is more than just speed…

(davis sot)
“does this pitcher have a quick move to first? is he slow to the plate? what kind of lead can i get off this guy? can i steal him straight up or do I have to improvise?

So many questions– the answer is usually the same…
His 24 stolens bases are 7th best in the big leagues…
He stole 50 bases a year ago…
John McDonald– another Blue Jay and CT native– has enjoyed watching Davis grow..

“he’s getting better in the outfield and you get better as a hitter as you get older. the more he settles in the better he’s going to be and the longer his career is going to be.”

(rajai davis sot)
“i think its only getting better i think i’m only getting smarter and I’m getting better as a team player as well.”
